We're The Pouch, a small manufacturer of custom-made carrying cases, and we're here to report another entry in the Ultra Mobile PC (UMPC) marketplace: OQO 02 - Shown above with the 5-inch screen WVGA screen slipped upward and keyboard uncovered. First, our thumbnail review of the OQO model 02 followed by a choice of two styles of carrying case from The Pouch, Inc.
OQO Features: A processor capable of 1.6-GHz, up to 1-GB of memory and two kinds of hard drive: A "regular" hard drive with up to 120-GB capacity available or a super-quick, 32-GB, solid-state drive. The OQO 01 has a membrane keyboard, but model 02 has a fully-mechanical/electronic contact keyboard, like most PDAs have - only larger.
It's in the area of connectivity that OQO 02 shines. First, it has 802.11/a/b/g Wi-Fi networking capability for hot spots, plus Bluetooth,® and then, as an option, OQO 02 can come equipped to connect to EV-DO, broadband service from either Sprint® or Verizon® wireless - requiring of course, a service contract.
OQO is handy. It weighs about one pound and it measures only 5.6" by 3.3" by 1.0" - just perfect for a carrying case from The Pouch, Inc.

The Pouch illustrated here has a hard plastic shield embedded in a long padded flap that covers the front of the OQO 02 UPC, providing four layers of protection, above and beyond the cover OQO supplies for the display. There's a sturdy spear-in clasp on the back that closes a rugged web belt loop and locks the Pouch carrying case onto a belt or purse strap.
