The PackerPOUCH for Yaesu FT-817

The PackerPOUCH is made of tough, resilient, water-resistant neoprene and nylon in a form-fit design for the FT-817.  Neoprene is bouncy, naturally-padded stuff - and will not come unraveled or be affected by moisture or petroleum products. And, it is washable.
The FT-817 comes with a perfect shoulder strap with a special retaining slot for the mike.  There is also a metal universal mike holder in the box along with sheet metal screws for attachment to dashboard, table or chassis...if  you don't mind a couple of extra holes in something.
The PackerPOUCH for the FT-817 fits like a glove, yet you can slip it out of the carrying case in a second simply by removing the unique, lock-in microphone plug and opening the large, padded flap secured on the front with velcro.  The top flap is easily opened to permit the rubber-duckie antennas provided to be attached to the BNC antenna connector on the front control panel.
You'll  find it is not only convenient but very protective if you wish to leave the Xcvr in the Pouch when you use it on a table, stump, rock or tailgate.
There are three small apertures on the side for:  (1) Mike Plug (2) Headphone jack and (3) Switch to change audio path from speaker to headphone.
There is one hole in the bottom large enough to permit connection to the PL259 antenna connector on the back, or "bottom," if you prefer - of the FT-817.
Since the auxillary power plug is a right-angle plug and the power cable is so small, it also can exit the same hole as the coax.
Several companies make various belt-carried and hand-carried battery power sources and most dealers can provide them - if you want super-long-time power reserves.  Since the internal battery pack takes any of the rechargeables, you can replace the alkalines and charge the batteries without removing them.
My experience is that extra nicads and a light cable to a cigarette lighter is usually enough for standby power.
The most amazing thing about The Pouch is that it is sound-porous. You will find that the sound is antenuated so slightly when in the carrying case, with the top flap securely closed, it will surprise you.
Available NOW through most Ham Equipment Dealers. $24.95. Not a bad price for insurance against dings, drops and drips!
